Class can be boring at times. In fact, this week's strip was conceived in just such a class I had attended recently. ART IMITATES LIFE!! Yes, I just called what we do "art".
MuggleMike 12/3/2011, 2:19 PM edit delete

Can you name a person in the Harry Potter series (besides Dobby) who was killed (not died of natural causes) because of something OTHER than magic?

If you are confused, read the comments below to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

The prize will be determined later, but it will be cool. The last prize we gave away was to be drawn as a student of Thornsaddle.

The winner must provide a correct answer in the comments section of this comic and will be chosen at random out of the pool of correct answers. One entry per person. You are allowed to post the same answer as someone who already posted. I won't penalize you for not getting it quick enough. BUT I encourage different answers for the sake of curiosity. Contest ends at midnight EST. Winner will be chosen on Sunday (12/4).

I just found your comic and I love it xD One of the most entertaining parody webcomics I've read! I especially liked the first few pages about how dangerous it was, that part had always stuck out at me xD

Subscribed :D

Haha. Thanks so much! Yea I mean once you have the power to regrow bones, the bar for acceptable danger get raised dramatically.

I think your life is just trying to stay ahead of the art!
MuggleMike 12/1/2011, 2:02 PM edit delete reply
Haha truth!
Rain Kllar 12/1/2011, 2:04 PM edit delete reply
it's very true... once you get past the "someone could get hurt! :O" stage, as the definition of 'hurt' just became null and void, health laws and safety equipment just ran out of use :)
MuggleMike 12/1/2011, 2:21 PM edit delete reply
Exactly. Has anyone in the wizarding community ever died NOT due to magic?
Aetherium 12/2/2011, 8:19 AM edit delete reply
Nicholas Flamel? He ended up dying of (extreme) old age in the end, right? :P
MuggleMike 12/2/2011, 2:43 PM edit delete reply
As in "nearly headless Nick"? Didn't he die of, you know, not having a head?
Aetherium 12/3/2011, 12:18 AM edit delete reply
No, not that Nick, Dumbledore's friend who owned the philosopher's stone! (Or sorcerer's stone if you're American...xP)
DouglasKills 12/3/2011, 3:38 AM edit delete reply
C'mon Mike...... you should know this.... XD
MuggleMike 12/3/2011, 7:22 AM edit delete reply
Okay. I will admit that I got the Nicks mixed up. BUT Nick Flamel still died as a RESULT OF MAGIC! He wouldnt have been so old without the Stone. BAM! Challenge still stands.
Chele 12/3/2011, 2:32 PM edit delete reply
Karkus the Grug of the giants, killed by another giant (his head was ripped off).
MuggleMike 12/3/2011, 3:29 PM edit delete reply
Yikes! Gruesome!
Hythlodeus 12/3/2011, 2:45 PM edit delete reply
Nearly Headless Nick - Beheaded
Cuthbert Binns - Died in his sleep
Karkus - Decapitation
Merope Gaunt - Childbirth
Hepzibah Smith - Poison

Nagini - Decapitated

Can't think of more
MuggleMike 12/3/2011, 2:52 PM edit delete reply
Holy stinkin' zombie Jesus! Was that really from memory? I call shenanigans!

Either way, nicely done!
ladysugarquill 12/3/2011, 8:27 PM edit delete reply
Thought Regulus was killed by Inferi, who are quite magical...
Allison 12/3/2011, 2:53 PM edit delete reply
Two of the the Pervell brothers one died of old age another died from suicide
Aetherium 12/5/2011, 1:31 AM edit delete reply
Hmm, if they died from being attacked by a dragon or giant, wouldn't you say it's still dying from magic, since those are magical creatures that don't really exist? :P

I still maintain Nicholas Flamel did not die as a result of magic. He died IN SPITE OF magic :P
MuggleMike 12/6/2011, 5:23 PM edit delete reply
Okay I can concede your point about Nick. Magic did not kill him. But I would say that giants and dragons killing people is not by magic implicitly. They are killing with physics, as in brute strength or innate abilities. They aren't tapping in to the "magic force" to kill. A giant ripping my head off would be no different than The Rock ripping my head off.
Aetherium 12/7/2011, 12:50 AM edit delete reply
Fair enough :P What about the Basilisk? Kills through eye contact! :P Would that be considered magical?
MuggleMike 12/8/2011, 2:10 AM edit delete reply
After much debate with the housemates, we have concluded that a Basilisk stare is indeed death by magic. Because it's actually using magic as opposed to physical strength or features.

Good lord in heaven! Thats a lot more characters than I thought there would be. The only one I could remember was Voldys mama with the childbirth thing. And that's cause it made me sad. Poor girl.
WizardRockDA 12/3/2011, 3:26 PM edit delete reply
Snape was bit by Nagini and bled out.
Fred was (presumably) killed by debris from the exploding wall.
CubedLink 12/3/2011, 4:36 PM edit delete reply
I was going to say Merope Gaunt died during Childbirth.
Ill have to think on this and come up with an answer not given yet. This is a great question.
MuggleMike 12/3/2011, 8:27 PM edit delete reply
Well like it says in the rules, you are allowed to post an answer that has already been said. But I like your enthusiasm!
ladysugarquill 12/3/2011, 8:28 PM edit delete reply
Does Pottermore canon count?
MuggleMike 12/3/2011, 8:37 PM edit delete reply
... hmmm I would have no way of verifying that information if it's exclusive to Pottermore. I got sorted (INTO GRYFFINDOR!) and then never logged into the site again. lol. But you answered correctly already. Good show.
ladysugarquill 12/3/2011, 8:28 PM edit delete reply
If not, James Potter's parents. They both died of (unspecified) natural causes.
Snidget 12/3/2011, 8:54 PM edit delete reply
I'm pretty sure the Grey Lady and the Bloody Baron died of muggle-ish means (stabbing and suicide, right?). This is a good challenge... who else muggle-dies?

Actually, Mike, I'm pretty sure Nearly Headless Nick died from a muggle beheading so he should count.

Oh! What about Aragog? Did he die of anything special?
MuggleMike 12/3/2011, 9:02 PM edit delete reply
Did I say Nick didn't count? My mistake. Yeah he counts. And I'm 90% sure Aragog died of natural causes.
Bradley 12/4/2011, 12:18 AM edit delete reply
I think Hedwig fell out of the sky while trapped in her cage, right?
MuggleMike 12/4/2011, 12:12 PM edit delete reply
Wow! That was a huge response. I think we're going to have to do this more often. Thank you all for participating! I will draw the winner and announce it here in a bit. Stay tuned!
